Hypothyroidism occurs in 1-2% of the population. The most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Both conditions are more common in females.

Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s are conditions that affect thyroid function. Hasimoto’s occurs when the cause of hypothyroidism is an autoimmune reaction.
